About Lesley University

Lesley University is a private university in Cambridge, which is a city in the US state of Massachusetts, in Middlesex County (being one of its 2 county seats, the other being Lowell), named in honor of the University of Cambridge in England, with a population of over 105 500 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2008 census, which makes it the 4th most populous city in the state behind Boston, Worcester, and Springfield.

Lesley was established in 1909 and was founded by Edith Lesley, as The Lesley School, being originally focused on early childhood education, as a part of a larger international kindergarten movement, established by Friedrich Wilhelm August Frobel. Lesley School became Lesley College in 1944, after it received authority to award the baccalaureate degree, and merged with The Art Institute of Boston (AIB), together forming Lesley University in 2001.

In addition to the Cambridge campus, Lesley also has a campus in Boston, both offering students a total of more than 20 undergraduate majors and over 90 Adult Bachelor's, Master's, Certificates of Advanced Graduate Study, and Ph.D. programs.

Athletics

Lesley's athletic teams are known as the Lynx and they compete at the NCAA Division III level, in the New England Collegiate Conference. Their distinctive colors are gold and green.
